Getting the Vehicle Dents Out Before the Paint Job

About three years ago I had my car repainted, but I couldn't afford to have the dents that were apparent fixed first. The paint job looked great, but it sure did make the dents stick out like a sore thumb. In fact I was so uncomfortable with the outcome that I purposely scratched the paint near the dents in an effort to make the damage look more "natural" and less noticeable. It worked, but I was left back at square one. So I went about the process of learning how to fix the dents myself while I saved up for another paint job. What I learned is that it's completely feasible to fix minor body damage without the need for costly service appointments. So, I decided to post some of the options that I've personally used with success on this blog. I hope the information here is helpful to you!

Useful Repair Tips For Fender Damage Caused By An Auto Collision

If you're hit on the side of your vehicle by another vehicle, chances are there is fender damage. It's important to deal with it effectively so that your vehicle's performance isn't hindered after this collision. Here are a few repair tactics to stay mindful of.

Buff Out Scratches

If the fender damage after a collision is just a couple of scratches, then you may be able to alleviate them entirely and thus restore this part of your vehicle visually. You'll just need to take your time buffing the scratches out. Fortunately, there are products made specifically for auto scratch removal.

You can apply a scratch removal solution to the damaged area and then use a buffing pad to work the solution around the area. Keep buffing until the scratch is no longer visible. If the scratch is deeper than you thought it was originally, you may need to work with an auto body repair shop.

Use a Suction Device For Dents

If your fender damage is in the form of a dent after a collision, then you may not need a lot of technical equipment to alleviate it. A suction device, for instance, may be all you need to remove the dent completely.

You just need to line it up around the center of the dent and then pull outward. The force should be enough to pop the dent right out. If you still have trouble, you can apply hot water around the dented area of the fender and then try the suction device again. The fender should be a lot more flexible than it was before.

Consider a Fender Replacement Under the Right Circumstances

There might be some circumstances after a collision that make it necessary to replace a fender on your vehicle. You just need to know what they are in order to perform the right actions when restoring your vehicle after a collision.

For example, if your vehicle's fender has a severe dent that's not going to be easy to remove or there is major structural damage that puts you at risk on the road, then you need to replace the component. In that case, take your vehicle to a shop for replacement services.

If you get into an accident on the road and one of your vehicle's fenders gets damaged, take your time seeing what's wrong and planning out repairs. Then you can restore this part of your vehicle in no time.
