The Process Of Tinting Car Windows
Are you looking to tint your car windows for safety, style, or because of protection from the sun? If so, you may want to know how the window tinting process works.
Cut The Film To Size
The process starts by cutting the film down to the right size. The window will be sprayed with a soapy water solution so that the window film will stick to the surface and slide around. The window film can be roughly put over the window, and then cut the edges immediately with a blade.
There will need to be some overlap where the window film is slightly bigger than the visible portion of the window. This includes the bottom portion of the window so that the film is tucked underneath the rubber seal, and along the sides as well.
Apply Heat To The Film And Trim
A heat gun is used to warm up the window film, which allows it to shrink slightly so that it becomes its final size. A squeegee is also used to get out any air bubbles underneath the window film to ensure that it is a good fit. Once everything looks good with the proper amount of overlapping areas, the window film is removed from the window. The film is placed on a peel board so that the loose edges of the window film can be trimmed carefully.
Clean The Inside Of The Glass
The window film will be placed on the inside of the vehicle, so the glass will need to be cleaned on the inside. This not only helps the window film stick to the surface but also prevents dirt and fingerprints from being trapped underneath the film. A razor blade can be used to scrape the glass and remove stubborn dirt from the surface. Once the window is clean and free of dirt, the window is sprayed down with soapy water.
Apply The Window Film
The window film is also sprayed down with soapy water before removing it from the peel board. The film is then carefully placed on the window glass, starting with the bottom edge of the film that slides into the body of the car slightly. A small gap is placed at the top of the window, which is standard practice so that the seal around the window does not push back on the window film. A squeegee is used to remove any soap and air bubbles underneath the film, and the process is completed.
