Owning a convertible can be a lot of fun. It also means that you have to take some extra steps in your auto care maintenance routine in order to keep the convertible top in the best shape possible. Otherwise, you could find that it will fall apart in no time at all.

Be Careful With What You Use For Cleaning

It is very important to make sure that you are keeping the convertible top clean. However, you must be careful because some types of products can break down the integrity of the material. The best thing to do is to avoid all cleaning products that contain silicone, citrus, bleach, or that are petroleum based. Instead, you will want to use mild soap cleaners that are meant for convertible tops. You should be able to find these online if you cannot find them at your local auto parts and supplies store. Just make sure that no matter what you are using to clean the top that you are thoroughly rinsing it off right away. If you don't, you may find that some of the color of the top can fade.

The Placement Of The Top

You will want to make sure that you are not putting the convertible top down in cold weather because if the mechanics are going bad and become stuck at some point, they could become stuck while your top is down. This is because the extra cold weather could cause some of the lubrication on the parts to gel up some. Also, when you are going to be storing your vehicle for an extended period of time, you will want to store it with the top up. Again, the mechanical parts could freeze up, especially after not being in use for a while so it is best to leave the top up just in case. That way, you can still use the car even on rainy days until the convertible top is repaired. Another point to consider, if you are trying to get the top to go up or down and you are hearing a grinding noise in the little motor, do not force it. It is malfunctioning, and by forcing the top to move, the small problem could turn into a big one.
